Cardinals 3 of the 5 infielders - 3rd base, shortstop and the starting catcher.
.
When one ball team comes out onto the field they are playing defense - the pitcher throws the ball (at speeds between 80 and 100 miles/hour) towards the opposing teams batters (the team get 3 outs) and their entire intent is to keep the team batting from scoring any runs.
To score a run - a batter must hit the ball thrown by the pitcher inbounds using a baseball bat (about 3/4 meter long) and not have it caught in the air or get "thrown out" while attempting to reach, 1st, 2nd,3rd base or home plate (in that order). A run is scored when a batter or runner (someone already on one of the 3 bases) crosses each of the three bases and makes it to home plate without being thrown out or tagged with the ball by the defense. Only the team batting or playing offense can score a run(s).

Busch Stadium is great. At the level of the concourse leading to our seats - I can walk all the way around the Stadium and see the game from a 360 degree viewpoint!!
