5) Detail of the plant 1.
In the gorges of the rocks overlooking the sea, rare botanical species conceal.
They are plants called "halophyte" (plants that live in environments rich in salt) because they are adapted to saline, dry and sunny climates.
One of these is the Sea-lavender or "Statice ligure" in Italian (scientific species: Limonium cordatum).
This plant is a fragmental neo-endemism of the Ligurian Riviera; in other words, it is spread in a random fashion between the Esterel massif (southwest of France) and the Portofino promontory (close to Genoa) only.
We managed to find and photograph it at the Malpasso resort on Capo Noli massif (Savona province).
This species is characterized by a basal tuft of leaves from which, late in spring, floral thin and zigzag stems (like a coral) sprout.
The blooms are very beautiful and delicate because the small flowers are dense and showy.
Vulgar Italian name: Lavanda di mare, Statice ligure.
Scientific name: Limonium cordatum.
Family: Plumbaginaceae.
Origin: Endemism of Riviera.
Resort: Malpasso - Cape Noli (SV) Italy.
Flowering: July - August.
